HCG launches ‘Breast Cancer Handbook’ to create awareness amongst masses
Initiative aimed at dispelling myths and promoting early diagnosis |
 |
Bangalore, October 23, 2009: HealthCare Global Enterprises Ltd. (HCG), south Asia’s largest cancer care network that has been a frontrunner in creating awareness about breast cancer and also the facilitator of Pink Hope Breast Cancer Support Group, today launched “Breast Cancer Handbook” that would serve as guide for women in dealing with Breast Cancer. |
On this occasion, members of the Pink Hope Breast Cancer Support Group (aim of the Group is to share experiences, provide psychological support and help new patients prepare for breast cancer treatment) pledged to wage war against breast cancer. The members also appealed to all for spreading awareness about the disorder in their neighbourhood, clear all myths and educate them on the need for early detection and proper diagnosis.
Speaking on the occasion Dr BS Ajaikumar, Chairman & CEO, HCG said, “Our attempt is to spread the core message that ‘breast cancer is not a single disease; truly it is multiple diseases behaving differently in each individual’. HCG’s aim is to communicate the importance of awareness about breast cancer in the first place and highlight the fact that early detection combined with proper diagnosis, staging & treatment would help in achieving long term control or cure”.
According to Dr Niti Raizada, Consultant, Medical Oncology and Consultant-in-charge, Center of Breast Health & Genetic Counselling Clinic, HCG, “The challenge today is to create awareness about growing incidence of breast cancer not only in urban centres but also rural areas. With breast cancer increasingly afflicting women even in their early 40’s and in some cases even 30’s, we should strive to encourage women to visit doctors for early detection as it is the best possible remedy”.
Sharing her thoughts, Ms Sashi Venkat, key member of the Pink Hope Breast Cancer Support Group, said “Awareness about breast cancer is minimal in India and I am sure the handbook would serve its purpose. Efforts should be made by all concerned to reach this handbook to as many women as possible and persuade them to follow it in letter and spirit”.
Another key member of the Support Group, Ms Roopa Venkatesh, said “Given the sensitivity of the disorder, many women tend to ignore early symptoms or even consult doctor. The handbook not only allays fears & apprehensions but also imbibes basic knowledge of the disease as well as its treatment protocols and in the process pave way for women to be prepared for any eventuality”.
