OVERVIEW HCG - Malnad Hospital & Institute of Oncology (MHIO) is the first comprehensive cancer centre to be established in the Shivamogga district. Established in 2003 as a result of collaboration between HCG and like-minded medical professionals and philanthropists, MHIO has played a crucial role in meeting the cancer care needs of the region.

Being the first dedicated cancer centre in the Malnad region, HCG-MHIO serves as a vital resource for cancer patients in Shivamogga and neighbouring districts, including Chikmagalur, Davangere, Chitradurga, Haveri, and Karwar, where specialised cancer care facilities were previously scarce.

As a leading cancer treatment hospital in Shivamogga, HCG-MHIO provides a wide array of cancer care solutions involving prevention, screening, diagnosis, treatment, rehabilitation, and palliative care. With fully equipped departments for radiation oncology, surgical oncology, and medical oncology, the centre ensures comprehensive care, improving patients' chances of survival and enabling them to lead healthy lives post-treatment.

In addition to its primary role as a dedicated cancer care provider, HCG-MHIO actively engages in community activities. The centre conducts cancer awareness and detection camps, organises cancer clinics, offers financial aid to cancer patients through the HCG Foundation, and operates a free food program, emphasising its commitment to holistic support for patients and their families.

Oncology Services

To enhance accessibility to care, HCG-MHIO is empanelled with various organisations, including the Ayushman Arogya Karnataka Yojana, JSS State Government Employees, Arogya Bhagya for Police Employees, and several insurance TPAs.

At the 55-bedded HCG-MHIO Cancer Centre, a patient-centric and value-based approach drives their treatment philosophy. A multidisciplinary team comprising medical, surgical, and radiation oncologists, as well as experts in pain management and onco-pathology, collaborates to develop personalised treatment plans tailored to each patient's specific cancer type, stage, and overall physical condition. This individualised approach positively impacts the treatment response and post-treatment recovery.
