Jeevan is a software engineer living in Bengaluru. He was blessed with a great job, an understanding wife, and, all in all, a beautiful life. But something happened in 2016 and 2022 that changed the lives of Jeevan, his wife, and his family.
He was diagnosed with cancer not once, but twice. The second time, it was stage 4 cancer, with the tumor covering most of the organ. However, he decided to fight back against cancer to reclaim his life, with his wife, Divya, as his rock.
Today, he leads an active life. He continues to work as a software engineer while still receiving cancer treatment.
Read this inspiring cancer patient story as we unfold different phases of Jeevan’s cancer journey.
We are confident that Jeevan’s story of surviving lung cancer will inspire other cancer patients to maintain a positive outlook on their treatment and fight fiercely against cancer, even if it is stage 4.
In 2016, Jeevan came across a lump in his hand. Worried and uncertain, he saw Dr. Pramod Chinder at HCG Cancer Centre, a well-known comprehensive cancer hospital in Bangalore.
After the evaluation, it was found to be Ewing's Sarcoma. He immediately underwent surgery as recommended by the expert team here. After the removal, this tumor was further tested, and it was found to be non-cancerous. However, he was advised to undergo annual checkups.
For the first few years, he kept his follow-up appointments, but because of his hectic schedule, he stopped. He thought he had no reason to worry as his condition was non-malignant.
Over time, slowly, things started getting back to normal for Jeevan.
Sometime in 2022, he encountered a viral infection, which caused fever, cold, and cough.
While the fever and cold got better, the cough only got worse. In addition to that, he had a drastic weight loss, from 72 kg to 61 kg. He underwent an X-ray immediately, and the doctor found a 24 cm tumor in his left lung.
The height of a typical lung is 27 cm, and Jeevan has a 24 cm tumor in his lung, which made the X-ray result even more concerning. The doctor said that he had to see a specialist immediately.
In 2022, he again visited HCG. Based on his cousin’s advice, he met Dr. Sateesh C.T., a senior medical oncology consultant. Dr. Sateesh understood the plight of Jeevan and his wife, and the first thing he did was to instill a sense of positivity and hope in them.
Jeevan underwent a PET scan to determine the extent of the disease’s spread; the reports suggested that he had spots in his right lung, too.
Jeevan remembers how Dr. Sateesh did not want to give up on him and worked hard, discussing with other doctors to develop a personalized lung cancer treatment plan.
Initially, Jeevan was recommended for chemotherapy. He underwent about 9-10 cycles of chemotherapy, spanning over 4 months. However, there were no results.
During his chemotherapy, Dr. Sateesh suggested that Jeevan undergo hyperthermia as well to make the cancer cells in his body more sensitive to chemotherapy. Unfortunately, this did not work either.
Amidst all this, Jeevan and his wife were not ready to give up, and neither was Dr. Sateesh.
After careful evaluation, Dr. Sateesh suggested that Jeevan consult the radiation oncology team to check if CyberKnife treatment was an option for his case.
Upon careful evaluation, one of the senior radiation oncologists confirmed that Jeevan was a good candidate for radiotherapy with CyberKnife.
Immediately, he underwent 5 fractions (sessions) of CyberKnife treatment within a week. Additionally, he was prescribed oral medication.
After three months, he was asked to come to the hospital for a follow-up. The tests showed that the tumor mass had reduced by 20%.
This was a moment of relief for not just Jeevan and his wife but also for Dr. Sateesh and his team at HCG.
Fast forward to 2025, Jeevan’s tumor size has reduced from 24 cm to 14 cm - that’s almost a 50% reduction.
He undergoes PET scans every three months, and most importantly, he’s living a normal life again. His cancer survivor story is a testament to how expert care, modern medicine, and mental resilience can change the course of even stage 4 lung cancer.
Jeevan’s lung cancer experience was completely transformed—from hopelessness to manageable recovery—thanks to advanced technology and a responsive medical team.
Jeevan’s story of a cancer survivor carries a powerful message: never ignore follow-ups. His initial decision to stop checkups after a benign tumor led to a life-threatening situation years later. He urges everyone to remain vigilant about their health, even when things appear normal.
He also emphasizes the value of choosing the right doctors and hospitals. For Jeevan, the HCG team gave him a second chance at life, combining medical precision with a deeply compassionate approach.
Jeevan’s lung cancer story teaches us that living with stage 4 cancer is not the end; it can be a new beginning with the right treatment and mindset. Innovations like CyberKnife offer hope where traditional options fall short. Equally important is the presence of a supportive care team, one that listens, responds, and stands with the patient every step of the way.
Jeevan’s patient success story reflects the power of perseverance, the importance of expert medical guidance, and the hope that modern oncology brings. Through advanced lung cancer diagnosis and treatment facilities and heartfelt support from HCG’s doctors, Jeevan now lives a life once thought impossible.
We will soon be back with another cancer survivor story. Until then, stay tuned.
